Restaurant Chaleur

77A Neil Road, Level 2

Singapore 088903

Chef Masahiko Kawano heads this beautiful restaurant nestled in the hustle and bustle of Neil Road serving up Japanese - French cuisine. Within 9 months of opening, Chaleur has already received it's first Michelin Star. Located on the second floor of an extremely charming shophouse, as you enter the restaurant, you are greeted with a U-shaped travertine communal dining table with an open kitchen right in the front of the table. It is an absolutely gorgeous set up and everyone on the table gets a fantastic view of the Chef working up his magic at the front of the house.

The menu at Chaleur changes up with some of the main dishes like the Signature duck consomme noodles staying as a fixture on the menu. When we went, this was our menu:

  • Buri with Turnip and Yuzu

  • Crab Chawanmushi and Caviar

  • Kue with Salted Lemon and Winter Spinach

  • Shiraka with Shungiku and Kataifi

  • Pigeon with Kintoki Carrot and Shimonita Leek

  • Signature Duck Consomme with Wholegrain Noodles

  • Fir with White Wine and Sudachi

  • Strawberry with Hazelnut and Creme D'ange

  • Petit Four

The standout dishes for the night were the crab chawanmushi and caviar, which was incredibly rich, smooth and creamy and nothing like the chawanmushi that we are used to. The pigeon was also very well cooked and an absolute delight to have.

We were incredibly lucky to have had the entire restaurant when we were there. Chef Kawano was there to welcome us. Throughout the night, the service was impeccable, everyone friendly and welcoming and the sommelier had fantastic recommendations. It is a tough restaurant scene in Singapore, with new restaurants popping up every month. For us, it is not only the food, but also the service that brings us back to any restaurant and Chaleur did that really well.

Booking

At the time of writing, there is availability at Chaleur a day in advance. It does not seem incredibly difficult to get a reservation at the restaurant.
